Facing The Giants
The movie is about a high school football team that has grown accustomed to losing. Parents blame the head coach Grant Taylor. Taylor is experiencing a lot of disappointments lately; his car breaks down frequently, he can’t provide his wife a nice car and home, and discovers that he is unable to give his wife a child. All these things, not to mention overhearing school parents plotting to have him fired, fall on him and become his turning point. He turns to God and prays. Very timely, an older man walks to him with a message of encouragement that makes him change his focus. He became a man of faith and changes his philosophy in coaching from being a self-centered university coach to a God-driven team coach.
This was the last part of the scene where the old man walks to him. Sobrang na-enlighten ako dito.
Coach Taylor : I admit to you I have been struggling. But I’ve also been praying. I just don’t see him at work here.
Mr. Bridges : Grant, I heard a story about two farmers who desperately needed rain. And both of them prayed for rain, but only one of them went out and prepared his field to receive it. Which do you think trusted God to send the rain?
Ayokong maging spoiler so I’ll stop here. But to give you the gist of the story, it’s all about facing the giants within us and building our faith with God. We encounter so many troubles in our lives and sometimes our struggles knock us off our feet. There are times when we want to give up and just end our life so that we could be free from the miseries of this world. We sometimes think that the world has forsaken us, and so does God. But what we never realize is that there’s Somebody up there Who is waiting for us to prepare our field for the rain. And when it rains, it pours.
He remains very loving and forgiving. I realized that after the storms in my life, sa Kanya pa rin naman ako umuuwi eh. Sa Kanya pa rin ako nakikipag-usap at humihingi ng tulong para harapin ang mga “higante” sa buhay ko. I’m like a child who seeks for my father’s hand when hurt or broken.
I believe that it’s through “Divine intervention” that I have come across this movie. Nakuwento ko na ‘yung present struggle namin and up to now, my husband is living in fear that any moment, he might lose his job. This is the giant that is creeping up on us waiting to crush our faith. I believe, to direct my fingers to click on this movie was God’s way of letting me know that we have to trust Him whatever struggle we are facing right now. Na walang higante na hindi kayang higitan ng faith mo sa nasa Itaas at walang imposible sa Kanya.
I certainly hope that you, if you come across this blog, could also see the movie and tell more people about it. I’m not forcing or asking you to be religious or become a pastor suddenly and preach the Word of God, but just by watching this movie, you can already feel the big difference it will make in your life. You will be moved.
